As I sit here at Wood River, IL, trying to stay warm in near-record cold weather, I decided to tap out a few words for REFLECTIONS ONLINE. While it is cold here and we did have a little cake ice floating by over the last couple of days, it has been nothing like the ice I posted about in my last online article. When I got up this morning it was 6 degrees, but when we arrived here the other night it was 24 and the wind was blowing 35 to 40 mph. I felt so bad for the crew, having to go out and tie off in that wind and weather, and then just stand there while they fueled barges. Working on the river has advantages, to be sure, but these weather extremes are not among them. I hope everyone is staying warm and safe as we try our best to do the same.
